Car Maintenance

January 2cd, Mike Lane will teach the girls how to tune up their car. They will learn how to change their oil, change windshield wipers, check fluids and tires, and much more. Wear old clothes and if you have goggles, bring them along!

Hair Cuts

The girls learned how to cut a man's hair cut for their second fellowship, as well as a young boy's. My philosophy is that if the mother can save money giving her husband and boys a nice cut, she can then splurge on her own trip to the spa once in a while having her own hair professionally done!

Keely learning to cut her Dad's hair. I was rather impressed with how well she did. There were no sections left untouched and it was really very even. Mike was also very impressive letting all those girls practice on him. We forgot to get pictures, but they started with shaping up his beard and shaving his neck with a straight razor. No blood!

Julia brought her electric buzzer and taught us all how to cut the standard boy's hair cut. His hair was quite long to start with so it was rather neat to see. She is very detail oriented, so did a fabulous job at trimming up the sides and back, which really make the difference between a job well done and a job "done at home."

Once-A-Month Cooking

Our third meeting (post on our second meeting to come) will be crafted after the lessons taught in this book. Our shopping day will be December 26th and the next day, we will cook all our meals for the next two weeks. Fun!

In preparation for this meeting, girls will want to bring their own notepads or binders for writing down helpful tips for once-a-month cooking. I would encourage you to bring recipe cards, a pencil, and any of your own kitchen utensils you would prefer to use (measuring cups and spoons for example). An apron will likely be quite important and please bring lunch money for the 26th and dinner money for the 27th (or a packed lunch). We will simply be too exhausted and I am sure, too disgusted to cook our own meal!

Keely and I will prepare our freezer for more meals and I will continue begging my husband for a food processor for Christmas!

Cycle Beads

The girl's first meeting was rather spontaneous, so since I needed to create cyclebeads for my practice, I thought I would combine the skill of jewelry making with learning about the female menstrual cycle into a lesson on creating your own cycle beads. I then shared a little bit about why a woman might want to utilize cyclebeads, once married, to either assist in becoming pregnant or for spacing children.

Each of the girls were able to determine where they were at in their own cycle, if they are currently ovulating with their cycles and if they are currently fertile. We also had a bit of an anatomy lesson, as well as discussion to better understand the follicular stage of the female cycle verses the luteal phase. They each went home with their very own, personally designed set of cyclebeads.

It was such a joy teaching these girls. Each of them were very engaged in the topic and genuinely enjoyed learning. They decided that their group would focus on building their hope chests, which to them means developing skills that will be useful for future mothering and their marital relationships. They each have a heart for womanhood and creating a future homestead. What a joy!
